Nigeria’s Super Eagles B suffered a crushing 4-0 defeat to Sudan in their second match of the 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) on Tuesday night, August 12, at Zanzibar’s Amaan Stadium.
The Sudanese side dominated from the outset, scoring three goals in the first half, including an own goal from Remo Stars defender Leonard Ngenge in the 25th minute. Ngenge, who had already come under criticism for an error in Nigeria’s opening match against Senegal, was again at the centre of controversy after his costly blunder.
Al-Hilal SC midfielder Abdel Raouf proved unstoppable for the Nigerian defence, netting a brace to deepen the woes of the home-based squad and secure Sudan’s emphatic victory. The result leaves Nigeria anchored at the bottom of Group D, with their hopes of progressing now hanging by a thread.
The heavy defeat has sparked outrage among fans, with many calling for the immediate dismissal of coach Eric Chelle over what they describe as his inability to effectively manage the home-based players.
