Ekiti APC Leaders Reaffirm Support for President Tinubu, Governor Oyebanji’s Second-Term Bids

The All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and stakeholders in Ekiti State have unanimously reaffirmed their support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Biodun Oyebanji, pledging to work towards their victory in the 2027 presidential election and 2026 governorship polls respectively.
The major endorsement was made during a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held at the country home of the late General Adeyinka Adebayo in Iyin-Ekiti on Friday.
Top Political Figures Rally Behind Tinubu, Oyebanji
The gathering brought together some of the most influential political leaders in Ekiti State, including two former governors, Chief Niyi Adebayo and Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the current Governor Biodun Oyebanji, his deputy Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye, Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, members of the National Assembly, State Assembly lawmakers, local government chairmen, and other party stakeholders.
The motion for the reaffirmation of President Tinubu’s second-term bid was moved by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and seconded by Hon. Olusola Fatoba, the member representing Ekiti Central Federal Constituency 1 in the House of Representatives.
Similarly, Speaker Adeoye Aribasoye moved the motion endorsing Governor Oyebanji’s re-election, which was seconded by Chief Whip Hon. Bose Olowookere representing Efon constituency. Both motions were overwhelmingly ratified through a loud voice vote, signalling a united front within the APC in Ekiti State.
Former Governors Call for Unity and Grassroots Mobilisation
In their separate remarks, former governors Niyi Adebayo and Kayode Fayemi urged party members to remain united and avoid complacency as preparations for the 2026 governorship election gather pace.
Dr. Fayemi, who lauded the massive support APC members had shown Governor Oyebanji, assured the party of his unwavering commitment to its success. He emphasised the need for robust grassroots mobilisation to ensure victory both at the primary and main elections.
“Governor Oyebanji has done well in the State. We do not envisage any problem during the primary election. I call on all stakeholders to mobilise grassroots support for him to win the main election. The culture of continuity must not be derailed,” Fayemi declared.
He further expressed optimism that Governor Oyebanji would break the historical jinx of one-term governors in Ekiti and become the first to secure re-election from the same party line.
National Assembly Members Pledge Support
Speaking on behalf of National Assembly members, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele assured Governor Oyebanji of their full backing, promising effective mobilisation ahead of both the primary and general elections.
Bamidele underscored the importance of continuity in governance and commended Governor Oyebanji for aligning state policies with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he noted had brought tangible developmental strides to the state.
Governor Oyebanji Reassures Party Members
In his remarks, Governor Biodun Oyebanji expressed gratitude to party leaders and members for their confidence in his administration. He reiterated his commitment to inclusive governance, urging all party members to see themselves as one big family regardless of political aspirations.
“We are one big family. Let everyone pursue their aspirations without any form of molestation or division. We will all work together for victory in the general election,” the governor stated.
Oyebanji stressed that the October 17 primary election would lay the foundation for both the 2026 governorship and 2027 presidential polls. He assured the gathering that his administration would continue its developmental agenda without resorting to loans for capital projects, maintaining financial prudence in governance.
APC Chairman Highlights Party Unity
The APC Chairman in Ekiti State, Barr. Olusola Elesin, explained that the meeting aimed to review the party’s preparedness for the primary election and to consolidate unity among members. He commended Governor Oyebanji and party leaders for supporting the party secretariat project and for the administration’s achievements that have strengthened the APC’s chances ahead of the next elections.
“This forum is the organ of the party that takes decisions on vital issues affecting us. We are united, and our achievements will speak for us in the coming elections,” Elesin affirmed.
Outlook Towards 2026 and 2027 Elections
Political observers note that the unanimous endorsement of President Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji reflects the APC’s determination to retain power both at the state and national levels.
