Nigerian-Born Student Tops UK A-Level Law Results With Record-Breaking Score

A Nigerian-born teenager, Abiola Abidoye, has earned nationwide recognition in the United Kingdom after emerging as the best-performing A-Level Law student across the country.

The 18-year-old, who studied at One Sixth Form College in Ipswich, achieved A* grades in mathematics, further mathematics, law, and physics, setting himself apart as one of the brightest students of his cohort. His exceptional performance was highlighted by his remarkable Law score — 224 out of 240 across three papers — despite admitting that law was not his “strong suit.”

Abidoye expressed delight at the achievement, explaining that while he had always considered maths and physics as his natural strengths, his passion for law motivated him to pursue it.

“I am really pleased. I have maths and physics which are my strong suit. I did law because it’s my passion. I’m very passionate about different types of law, even some that we didn’t do like human rights. It was just a fun lesson I wanted to do. I wasn’t expecting to do so well,” he said.

The Nigerian-born scholar admitted he was surprised when he discovered he had achieved the highest national score in law, a feat that came before he had even received his other results.

“I saw that result before my others, so I was already nervous waiting for them, but then that came through. I put in an immense amount of work into this. I was staying up to ungodly hours for my studying. I put a lot of pressure on myself to try and achieve it. I am not sure if I will do it again because it was very difficult, but I am pretty happy,” he added.

Abidoye credited his teachers at One Sixth Form College for their unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement throughout his studies, stressing that their role was pivotal in his success.

Looking ahead, the talented student plans to further his academic journey by studying mathematics at university, with aspirations of pursuing a career in banking or finance.

His remarkable accomplishment has drawn admiration from both the Nigerian and British communities, serving as an inspiring example of how dedication, hard work, and passion can unlock opportunities on a global stage.
