Promise Kept, Lives Transformed: Dr. Chima Amadi Gifts Car to Accident Victim, Donates ₦3 Million to Female Surgical Ward

Federal University Teaching Hospital Owerri (FUTHO) witnessed scenes of overwhelming joy and gratitude on Monday as philanthropist and political figure, Dr. Chima Matthew Amadi, popularly known as Mazi Gburugburu, fulfilled a life-changing promise to a patient and extended massive support to others in the Female Surgical Ward.

At exactly 2:30 pm in Ward 11, Amadi presented the keys to a Toyota Sienna to Mrs. Amanze Regina Adaku, a woman he first encountered weeks ago after a motorcycle accident left her hospitalised and unable to settle her medical bills. On his earlier visit, he had not only cleared her bills but also assured her that she would one day own a car. Yesterday, that promise came true in spectacular fashion.

Witnesses described the moment as electrifying. “Gasps turned into shouts. Tears turned into songs,” one nurse recalled, as patients, staff, and families erupted in jubilation. Amanze, overwhelmed with emotions, struggled to find words, her voice drowned out by the chorus of women singing in celebration.

But Amadi did not stop there. Before leaving, he directed that ₦3 million be shared among patients in the Female Surgical Ward, many of whom were stranded due to unpaid bills. Envelopes of relief money quickly reached trembling hands, sparking tears of gratitude across the ward.

Over ₦45 Million Spent on Hospital Interventions

This gesture adds to a growing list of interventions by Amadi at FUTHO. Since his first unscheduled visit earlier this month, he has reportedly spent close to ₦45 million clearing bills and providing financial support for patients. His consistent actions, observers noted, have transformed lives and lifted burdens in ways rarely seen in the state’s healthcare system.

Doctors at the hospital admitted they had never witnessed such generosity on this scale, while patients hailed Amadi as a saviour. One elderly man whispered, “This is not philanthropy. This is prophecy.”

Leadership That Keeps Promises

Beyond the immediate relief, many believe Amadi’s actions symbolise a deeper message of leadership rooted in compassion, integrity, and consistency. Unlike common political gestures tied to publicity, his interventions have been described as genuine, timely, and deeply personal.

For residents of Imo State, his visits have become a source of renewed hope. As chants of “Our son, our helper, our leader” echoed through the hospital corridors, the atmosphere felt less like charity and more like a covenant between a leader and his people.

Ward 11, FUTHO, will not forget this day — and neither will Imo State.
