Dr. Ahmad Gumi Warns Against Alleged Mossad Presence in Nigeria, Calls Move a “Ticking Time Bomb”
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
Popular Islamic scholar, Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmud Gumi, has sparked nationwide debate after alleging that Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, is secretly operating in Nigeria. Speaking on Monday, 18 August 2025, through his social media page, the outspoken cleric warned that the development could lead to covert killings of Muslim leaders and destabilise the country’s fragile security system.

Gumi’s Grave Allegations
According to Daily Post, Gumi described the alleged presence of Mossad as a “ticking time bomb”, insisting that Nigeria was risking its sovereignty and security by opening its doors to what he called a “genocidal apartheid government.”
The cleric directly cautioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arguing that the president had been misled into supporting such a partnership.
“How can this genocidal apartheid government have a footing in Nigeria?” he queried, warning that the collaboration “will cost him (Tinubu) a lot more than he may gain.”
Gumi stressed that while security cooperation is important, it should never come at the expense of national unity, independence, and the safety of citizens.
Linking Concerns to Nigeria’s Past
In his remarks, Dr. Gumi drew parallels between the present situation and Nigeria’s past. He pointed to the sudden death of General Sani Abacha, the country’s former Head of State, raising suspicion that it may have been linked to foreign influence.
According to him, Abacha’s death shortly after hosting late Palestinian leader, Yasir Arafat, in Abuja was not ordinary. He suggested that such events should serve as warnings for Nigeria not to fall into external manipulations.
Fear of Destabilisation
The fiery preacher argued that allowing Mossad to operate within Nigeria could lead to secret operations targeting influential figures, particularly within the Muslim community. He warned that this alleged interference would not only destabilise the country’s leadership but also erode trust in the government.
“The government must rethink its alliances before it is too late. Nigeria stands to lose more than it can ever gain from such a controversial collaboration,” he said.
Gumi further described the move as an invitation to danger, stressing that no nation should compromise its sovereignty under the guise of international cooperation.
A Warning to President Tinubu
Gumi’s strongest words were directed at President Tinubu, whom he accused of being “ill-advised” on the matter. He insisted that those pushing for the alleged Mossad partnership were not acting in the best interest of Nigeria.
He maintained that the consequences of such an alliance could be devastating, both for the administration and for the country as a whole.
Growing Debate and Public Reaction
The cleric’s comments have since stirred heated reactions across Nigeria, particularly among religious and political observers. While some support Gumi’s concerns about sovereignty and external influence, others dismiss his claims as unfounded and inflammatory.
For now, the federal government has yet to officially respond to the allegations. However, analysts believe the matter could escalate into a major diplomatic and security controversy, particularly given Nigeria’s delicate balance of religious and political interests.
Dr. Ahmad Gumi’s allegations have reopened discussions about Nigeria’s international alliances, foreign intelligence influence, and the balance between national security and sovereignty. His warning that Mossad’s alleged presence could lead to secret killings and political instability has drawn attention both within and outside Nigeria.
Whether the federal government dismisses his claims or responds with clarification, the issue is likely to remain at the centre of Nigeria’s political discourse in the coming weeks.
