In his teaching, Dr Oyebiyi carefully examined both the positive and negative dimensions of cultural diversity in marital relationships. He explained that while cultural differences between spouses could sometimes lead to misunderstanding and friction, they also offer valuable opportunities for growth, enrichment, and deeper mutual understanding when properly managed.
“Our cultural backgrounds influence how we communicate, resolve conflicts, raise children, and express love,” he said. “When these differences are not acknowledged or respected, they become obstacles. But with patience, love, and a willingness to learn, couples can turn them into strengths that unify rather than divide.”
Drawing from Scripture and practical examples, Dr Oyebiyi encouraged couples to build bridges across cultural divides, cultivating empathy and shared values rooted in the teachings of the Church. He also underscored the importance of open dialogue, forgiveness, and humility in overcoming cultural challenges in marriage.
Participants applauded the session as insightful, timely, and deeply relevant in today’s complex social landscape. Many expressed renewed commitment to understanding their spouses better and applying the lessons in their homes.
