Embracing Divine Calling: Joseph Iyaji’s Daily Catholic Reflection on the Birth of St. John the Baptist.
Beloved in Christ,
Today is the Solemnity of the Birth of St. John the Baptist and today is Monday, the 24th day in the month of June, year 2024. I am here as usual to share the Word of God with you. My name is Joseph Iyaji.

In today’s edition of my daily Catholic reflection, we shall learn about the divine calling, the fulfillment of God’s promises, and the power of faith.
In our first reading from Isaiah 49:1-6,we see a profound message about God’s calling and purpose. The prophet Isaiah speaks of being chosen by God from the womb, signifying that each of us has a unique purpose and mission set by the Creator. This passage challenges us to recognize and embrace our divine calling. It emphasizes that God has prepared each of us for a special role, even before we were born. Are we living up to the potential and purpose God has set for us? Are we listening to His voice and following His guidance?
Isaiah also speaks about being a light to the nations, a reminder that our calling is not just for personal fulfillment but to be a beacon of hope and guidance to others. This is a powerful reminder that our lives have broader implications; we are meant to impact and uplift those around us.
In our second reading from Acts 13:22-26, we see the fulfillment of God’s promises through the lineage of David. Paul recounts the history of Israel, highlighting how God raised David, a man after His own heart, to lead His people. Through David’s line, Jesus, the Savior, was brought into the world. This passage underscores the faithfulness of God in keeping His promises across generations. It invites us to trust in God’s plan and timing, even when it seems long and uncertain.
Paul’s message also serves as a call to humility and readiness to accept God’s will. John the Baptist, a central figure in today’s celebration, exemplified this humility. He recognized his role in preparing the way for Jesus and did so with unwavering faith and dedication. Are we prepared to fulfill our roles with the same humility and commitment?
In our gospel reading from Luke 1:57-66, 80, we witness the miraculous birth of John the Baptist and the joy and amazement it brings. Elizabeth’s neighbours and relatives rejoice with her, seeing the great mercy the Lord has shown her. When Zechariah confirms John’s name, his speech is restored, and the people recognize that God’s hand is at work.
This passage is a beautiful testament to the power of faith and obedience. Zechariah’s initial doubt led to his temporary muteness, but his eventual obedience and faith brought about restoration and fulfillment of God’s promise. It teaches us that even when we falter in faith, God is merciful and ready to restore us when we turn back to Him.
John’s growth and strength in spirit, living in the wilderness until his public appearance, highlight the importance of spiritual preparation and dedication. Are we preparing ourselves spiritually for the roles God has assigned to us? Are we nurturing our faith and allowing it to grow strong?
Beloved in Christ, today’s readings remind us of the importance of recognizing and embracing our divine calling, trusting in God’s faithfulness, and living in obedient faith. As we celebrate the Birth of St. John the Baptist, let us reflect on our own lives and how we can better fulfill the purpose God has set for us. Let us strive to be a light to others, trust in His promises, and grow in faith and spirit.
I pray, may God continue to bless us,as we
Strive to walk faithfully in His path in Jesus’ name. Amen.
