According to a report from Akahi News, the price of petrol in Nigeria has experienced a significant increase, reaching approximately N617 per litre. To verify this information, journalists visited various NNPC filling stations located along the Kubwa expressway and Utako in Abuja, where they confirmed that the price had been adjusted from N539 to N617 per litre.

Elder Chinedu Okoronkwo, the National President of the Independent Petroleum Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), corroborated the development during an interview with the press on Tuesday. Okoronkwo explained that fuel prices would continue to fluctuate based on market forces and changes in the foreign exchange market. He attributed these fluctuations to the current regime’s decision to remove fuel subsidies and emphasized the need for an alternative to fuel.

These adjustments in fuel prices have emerged amidst speculations of a nationwide upward review of fuel pump prices. In June, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government removed fuel subsidies, resulting in a significant spike in petrol prices from N190 per litre to over N500 per litre.

Akahi News also spoke to motorists who expressed their concerns about the harsh policies imposed by the current administration, which they believed were taking a toll on citizens. One individual commented on the rush at Mobil filling stations, where prices remained unchanged, stating, “I don’t know the kind of hardship these people are putting us through. They said NNPC has adjusted their price, we are buying here at 540, but they are about to adjust their price. This current administration is leading us to hell.” The individual urged for a change in government, suggesting that the original winner of the election should be installed in power.

A taxi driver named Mohammed Sani echoed the sentiment of suffering among Nigerians due to the petrol price increment. He lamented the situation, saying, “At NNPC, it is written 617 on their board. They are likely going to increase their price here at Mobil. The situation is very bad; the masses are suffering. The situation is very hard; it is not easy for a poor man to go out, not to talk about eating food.”

The increase in petrol prices in Nigeria has caused widespread concern and frustration among citizens who are experiencing the direct impact of these adjustments. As fuel prices continue to fluctuate based on market forces, many Nigerians are left grappling with the financial burden and hardships imposed by these changes.
