Senator Stephen Odey, who previously represented Cross River North at the National Assembly, held the burial ceremony for his late father, Pa Odey Mboh, in Cross River State on Friday. The funeral took place in Alifokpa Community, Yachie village, Yala LGA of Cross River State. Pa Odey was a retired farmer renowned for cultivating and harvesting large quantities of rice and yams.
During the funeral service at the Mater Ecclesiae Parish in Alifokpa Yache, Rev. Father Ogwu Denis Ejikepang delivered a sermon encouraging the family to celebrate the life of Pa Odey and give praise to the Lord, as he had now joined Him.
Cross River State Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, and his wife, Rev. Mrs. Eyoawan Bassey, expressed their condolences and described Late Chief Odey Mboh as a virtuous man who had left behind a legacy for his children. The governor emphasized the impact of Pa Odey’s generosity and commitment to the development of his community, urging others to emulate his exemplary life of service.
Former Governor Prof. Ben Ayade also shared in Senator Odey’s grief and advised him to accept the inevitability of death and learn to live with the loss. Ayade commended Pa Odey for living a remarkable life and reaching the age of 102, a rare achievement.
Clement Ebri, a former governor of Cross River State, acknowledged Pa Odey’s fortitude, resilience, and profound impact on those around him throughout his impressive journey of 102 years. He believed that Pa Odey’s rich legacy would inspire future generations.
Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe praised Late Chief Odey Mboh for being a loving father and devoted Christian. Senator Cleopas Zuwoghe, representing Bayelsa Central Senatorial District, described Pa Odey as a man of peace and humility, highlighting the emotional impact of his life story and expressing joy in knowing that he had found his final destination in heaven.
Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, representing Cross River South senatorial district, emphasized that the memory and legacies of Late Chief Odey Mboh would be cherished and remembered. Kanu Agabi, a renowned Nigerian constitutional lawyer, celebrated the life of Pa Odey, focusing on his qualities of peace, hope, and love.
